Find us in Philadelphia.

a field of not-even-anything is officially installed at Paulownia Projects in West Philadelphia

From the Press Release:

Opening on September 5, Paulownia Projects proudly presents a field of not-even-anything, a new exhibition by the collaborative duo, Thought Forms. This show will be mind-folding journey through space via a series of light-filled paintings created with natural dye materials that evoke mystic, misty landscapes. Bixa Burgos and Dan Cole came together as Thought Forms to explore a desire to communicate the energy of plant-based color and translate the invisible world onto canvas. a field of not-even-anything presents new paintings by the duo in harmony traditional Tantric paintings that function as objects to guide and focus attention during meditation.

Thought Forms’ work is a process-based practice that uses the unique chemical properties of plants like madder, indigo and logwood to create vibrant colors. The panels of linen are folded and manipulated through a series of dye baths that mark time and space through flowing water and gravity. The results of this process create ethereal paintings that echo the groundbreaking works of Helen Frankenthaler, experiments of the Washington Color School and the mystical writings of Annie Besant.

These paintings unite the physical world with the patterns of thinking in Theosophy, which conceives that thoughts and emotions create tangible, energetic shapes in the astral plane. The divine quality of colors derived from plants further expresses the magical notion that a hidden world permeates our experience in ways that can only be revealed through expanding consciousness.

These remarkable works are on view from September 5 through October 18. Please join us for a celebratory event with the artists on Friday, September 19 from 5-8pm!
