Going through the Indigo Portal
It begins!

We are 5 weeks out from our first art fair of 2024. Dan told me we should try to have 30 new pieces done by that date. As of today, April 28th, we have (5) fresh pieces framed that can fit into our vehicles. Perfect Dan has been coming to Green Matters with me every other week or so to spend a day in the studio – but the next few weeks he will be in the Building Zone, building several frames a day to prepare for another 30 fresh pieces. To meet our deadline I have taken some time off from work to focus on finishing our next run of paintings. This week I spent my mornings listening to Wake and Bake from 6-9AM, toiling away at the indigo vat and guiding the linen through the mystical vortex that is indigo.
This week has felt especially fruitful. The weather was all right. The vat was happy. The universe was generous. A friend of ours reached out that her work was clearing out some unused fabric. Dan went to check it out on Tuesday and sent me a picture of the yield while I was in the studio.

A few things are more stimulating to an artist than a photo of a blank wall or a car full of Belgian linen. To have this quantity of fabric on hand gives us the freedom to work faster without the delay of ordering fabric online.
There are some new painting techniques we are excited to dive into after the Spring show season. New portals are opening every day, and new work follows.
Needless to say we stay grateful for all supporting this practice. Thank you for witnessing.

And now, what you’re all really here for:
Our perfect dog is having a nice week. We made friends with the groundskeeper of a Mennonite meetinghouse’s cemetery a while back, and he lets us run the dog around the cemetery. Here is Joni among the flowers.

We’re spending the rest of the weekend celebrating a friend’s wedding and finally checking out the Sky Space installation in Chestnut Hill.
Cheers,
bixa
